Ursula and Dejan of Studio SYN teamed up with Erika and Anders of Office TEN to to form a tutor team and lead the fourth  STORE’s architectural summer school that took place at Dalston’s Gillett Square, London in July and August 2018. STORE’s London Summer School. Through material testing and immediate engagement with an active urban site, we explored architecture, art practice and performance to understand the dynamics of public space. This year’s designs were developed in collaboration with Hackney Pirates, a storytelling group local to the area. The summer school culminated in a celebratory performance by InforMotion.

The school was realised with support from Hackney Co-operative Developments, RIVA, Cripplegate, Lawsons and Hackney Pirates. STORE team were Gabriel Warshafsky, Viktor Westerdahl and Greg Nordberg. Assistant Tutors were Maria Konstantopoulou and Esma Duzgun. Lighting consultant was Alkestie Skarlatou of LightInSpace. Students were Amanzhol Kellett, Anne Manuales, Arushi Kulshreshtha, Helen Caulfield, Jarvia Reddy, Mahfuz Ahmed, Majura Uthayakanthan, Max Vallance and Tiberiu Ion. InforMotion prepared a site specific performance for the final evening of the summer school. Artistic director was Muti Musafiri and dancers were Jordan Ajadi, Steph Be and Jodie Bray. We give special thanks to Ben Bradford and Shijia Huang for their help.
